Manage Notes

You can use the free-flowing Notes area to document client and prospect conversation or include matter notes to a colleague.

Add a Note

From Matters

To add a note from Matters:

  1. From the left navigation panel, click Matters.
  2. On the Matters screen, double-click a matter, or single-click it and to the far right of the row, click on the three dots and from the drop-down, click View.
  3. From the Matter Summary section, click Matter Management.
  4. From the tabs atop the Matter Management screen, click Notes.
  5. On the Notes screen, from the toolbar, click Add Note.

From Practice Management

To add a note from Practice Management:

  1. From the left navigation panel, click Practice Management.
  2. From the Practice Management menu, click Notes.
  3. On the Notes screen, from the toolbar, click Add Notes.

Add Note Screen Fields

Date From the drop-down, click the date. This will default to today’s date.
Subject Enter the note subject.
Note  Enter your notes.
Client-Matter
  • From Matters: This field will auto-populate.
  • From Practice Management: Enter the client or matter name, if desired. The drop-down displays potential matches. Note: Notes you add through Practice Management do not have to be associated with a matter.
Billing Status  This will display only if you enter a Client-Matter. From the drop-down, click the applicable status.
Note:If you mark this note as Billable, you will see the checkbox, Create timecard for this Note. If you check the box the system will automatically create a timecard for this note based on the rate of the Timekeeper selected.
Note Color Click a color to apply to the note.
Custom Labels Click Add New Label and click a label from the drop-down, if desired. You can add multiple labels to a note.
  • In the upper right corner, click Save.
    The system adds the note to the listing.

To ensure that the note gets billed, you can create a timecard directly from the note.

Edit a Note

To edit a note:

  1. Use the steps above to reach the Notes screen from Matters or Activities.
  2. On the Notes screen, single-click the note, to the far right of the row, click on the three dots and the from the drop-down, click Edit.
  3. On the Edit Note screen, make your edits to the note.
  4. In the lower right corner, click Save.
    The system saves your changes.

Delete a Note

To delete a note:

  1. Use the steps above to reach the Notes screen from Matters or Practice Management.
  2. On the Notes screen, single-click the note, to the far right of the row, click on the three dots and the from the drop-down, click Delete.
    The Delete Note message box reads: Are you sure you want to delete selected Note?
  3. Click Yes.
    The system deletes the note.
