After a custom field is created in Cosmolex, you can then associate the custom field to a matter. This allows for the organization and the visibility of client matter info such as Statute of Limitations, or a Docket number for a client matter.

There are two scenarios when associating a custom field to a matter:

When Visible by Default is Turned On:

  • Under Setup > Click Custom Fields Section > Under the Matter tab > Select the custom field you created > click Edit > Visible by default will be checked in the window as shown below:

  • On the Matter Details page > click Custom Fields section > Click More Fields

  • In the More Fields window > you will see the checkbox is greyed out next to the custom field meaning this custom field will always show in the custom fields section for the matter.

When Visible by Default is Turned Off:

  • Under Setup > Click Custom Fields Section > Under the Matter tab >  Select the custom field you created > click Edit > Visible by default will be unchecked in the window as shown below:

  • On the Matter Details page > click Custom Fields section > Click More Fields

  • In the More Fields window > you will see the checkbox is unchecked next to the custom field meaning this is not associated with the matter.

  •  If you want to associate this to the matter, check off the box next to the custom field and click close

  • You will now see the custom field added to the matter as shown below:
