Taxes paid to vendors for operating expenses must be input at the time the transaction and are posted to contra liability account for lawyer’s input tax credits (Note: if your jurisdiction uses two taxes, province tax may not be recoverable and may need to be posted to an expense account. E.g. In British Columbia, PST is not recoverable and is posted to expense account 6660. In Quebec, QST is recoverable and is posted to contra liability account 2212.).
There is no automated setting for calculating the taxes the firm pays to others. When you save a transaction there is an automatic warning if taxes are missing. Entering this data is important for the Input Tax Credits for tax filing.
